TRAILS & TAILS
With Trails & Tails Dog Walking Club!
In honor of our best girl, Thea, who crossed the rainbow bridge in February 2025. Thea was an adventurous soul who loved hiking, exploring trails, and even attempted climbing a giant boulder once! She reminded us that some of life’s best memories are made outdoors with a dog by your side. Trails & Tails was created to honor that spirit by bringing dogs and their people together for community, enrichment, education, and adventure.
This is a free community dog walking club based around responsible dog ownership and connection. While this is not a formal dog training class, our walks provide opportunities for owners to practice real-world skills, learn safe handling habits, and build confidence with their dogs in a supportive group setting. Our goal is to create a welcoming space where dog owners, adopters, fosters, volunteers, and animal lovers can explore local trails, strengthen the bond with their dogs, and connect with others who care about helping dogs and their people flourish.
Trails & Tails will primarily meet at Turkey Mountain, with additional local trail recommendations and occasional group walks at other dog-friendly outdoor spaces throughout the Tulsa area. Wags & Walks is our other dog walking club at more urban settings. Participation is free. We ask all attendees to review our safety guidelines, follow all city and local park rules/ordinances, and complete the participant waiver before joining their first walk.

WAGS & WALKS
With Wags & Walks
Dog Walking Club!
Inspired by Moxie, our sunshine sweetheart. While Thea found joy on rugged trails and mountain adventures, Moxie reminds us that happiness can be found in life's simpler moments - a leisurely stroll through the park, a sunny afternoon on a blanket, stopping to smell the flowers, or making a new friend along the way.
Wags & Walks is a free community dog walking group that celebrates connection, responsible dog ownership, and the everyday adventures we share with our canine companions. Designed with accessible, urban-friendly walks in mind, Wags & Walks explores local parks, paved trails, and pet-friendly community spaces throughout the Tulsa area. Whether you're raising a puppy, enjoying retirement with a senior dog, working on everyday manners, or simply looking for good company, everyone is welcome to join us.
While this is not a formal dog training class, each walk provides opportunities to practice real-world skills, build confidence in public spaces, strengthen the bond between dogs and their handlers, and learn practical, science-based information that supports responsible dog ownership. At its heart, Wags & Walks is about more than walking dogs. It's about creating a welcoming community where people can learn, encourage one another, and help dogs and their people flourish - one walk at a time.
Participation is always free. We simply ask that all attendees review our safety guidelines, follow local ordinances, and complete the participant waiver before attending their first walk.

Club Tee Shirts
Multiple colors available in both adult and youth sizes!
Show your support by purchasing a Flourish Companion Project T-shirt. While each shirt provides a small contribution to our mission, its greatest impact comes from being worn. Whether you're joining us for a group outing or wearing it around town, you're helping spread awareness, start conversations, and connect more people with the resources, education, and support our community provides. Every shirt helps our mission reach a little farther.

At check-in you'll have the opportunity to:
Meet other participants.

Each event begins with a short welcome that may include:
Trail or park information
Safety reminders
Seasonal health considerations
Community announcements
A brief educational topic related to responsible dog ownership
Our educational moments are informal, practical, and designed to help owners build confidence in everyday situations.
Participants are encouraged to walk at a pace that is comfortable for both themselves and their dogs.
Our walks are not races and are not structured obedience classes.
Instead, they provide opportunities to:
Practice real-world leash skills.
Build confidence in public settings.
Strengthen the bond between handler and dog.
Learn through observation and shared experiences.
Meet fellow dog lovers within the community.
There is no expectation that dogs interact with one another. Respecting each dog's individual comfort level is one of our core values and we expect that everyone will follow the color coded system to avoid hazardous interactions between dogs.
No problem!
If you or your dog need to:
Take a break
Turn around early
Leave before the walk ends
Skip a section of the route
Please do so. We want every experience to end on a positive note.
Participants may choose to stay afterward to:
Visit with other dog owners
Ask questions
Share experiences
Learn about local pet resources
Meet new friends
Building community is one of the most important parts of Flourish Companion Project, and everyone is welcome to participate at whatever level feels comfortable.
Every participant, every dog, and every journey is different.
Whether your goal is hiking your first trail, helping a newly adopted dog gain confidence, meeting other dog lovers, or simply enjoying time outdoors, we're glad you're here.
Together, we're building a stronger community for dogs and the people who love them.
Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where dogs and their people can enjoy the outdoors, build confidence, and connect with their community. These guidelines are intended to reduce the risk of injury, illness, unwanted interactions, and lost pets while promoting responsible dog ownership. Thank you for helping us create a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Each participant is responsible for:
Their own safety and the safety of their dog.
Selecting an event that is appropriate for both themselves and their dog.
Maintaining control of their dog at all times.
Following all local park rules, city ordinances, and posted regulations.
Cleaning up after their dog.
Respecting other participants, trail users, wildlife, and public spaces.
Participation is voluntary. Every handler knows their dog best and should make decisions that prioritize their dog's physical and emotional well-being.
For everyone's safety, we ask that each participant handle only one dog during group walks.
Managing a single dog allows handlers to respond more safely if:
Wildlife appears.
Equipment fails.
Another dog becomes reactive.
Someone needs assistance.
Unexpected situations arise.
Children are welcome but should not independently manage a dog during our events.
If a child wishes to participate, the child and supervising adult should handle the dog together, with the adult maintaining hands-on control or remaining immediately available to safely intervene if needed.
Appropriate equipment helps prevent injuries and reduces the risk of dogs becoming loose.
We recommend:
Well-fitted collar (we recommend a martingale-style collar)
Well-fitted harness (we recommend a martingale-style no-pull harness)
Standard 4–6 foot leash
Current identification tags
Water and portable bowl
Waste bags
Dog Treats/Treat Pouch, Clicker, or other Training and Reward Tools
For dogs who are newly adopted, fearful, recovering, strong pullers, or considered flight risks, we strongly encourage additional safety equipment such as:
Backup slip lead
Secondary safety connector between collar and harness
Double attachment systems
Redundant safety systems can significantly reduce the risk of escape should a collar, harness, or leash fail unexpectedly.
Retractable leashes are not permitted during group walks due to safety concerns for both dogs and participants.
Not every dog enjoys social interaction, and that's perfectly okay.
To help every dog feel comfortable:
Always ask before approaching another dog.
Respect the color indicator system.
Allow dogs adequate personal space.
Avoid crowding dogs at trailheads or rest stops.
Dogs should remain on leash throughout the event.
Our goal is for every dog to finish the walk feeling successful.
To help create a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone, Trails & Tails and Wags & Walks use an optional color-coded system to help communicate a dog's comfort level before an interaction ever takes place.
🟢 Green – Friendly
I'm generally comfortable with people and dogs. Please ask before approaching.
🟡 Yellow – Please Give Me Space
I may be nervous, in training, recovering, or simply prefer more personal space. Please allow extra distance.
🔴 Red – Please Do Not Approach
I need space. Please admire me from a distance and avoid approaching or attempting to interact.
🔵 Blue – Working Dog
I may be a service dog, therapy dog, or working dog. Please do not distract me while I'm working.
Our color system is designed to encourage communication, reduce misunderstandings, and help every dog have a positive experience. Regardless of the color, always ask the handler before approaching or interacting with any dog.
Please do not offer treats, toys, chews, or food to another participant's dog without the handler's permission.
Many dogs may have:
Food allergies
Medical conditions
Specialized diets
Resource guarding behaviors
Ongoing training plans
When in doubt, always ask first.
Owners are responsible for ensuring their dogs meet all applicable local and state vaccination requirements.
Dogs should remain home if they are experiencing:
Coughing
Vomiting
Diarrhea
Fever
Unexplained lethargy
Contagious illness
Community events naturally increase exposure to infectious diseases. Please consider your dog's age, vaccination status, health history, and personal risk factors before attending.
Additional there are other things that dogs can become exposed to that they may not be protected from with mandatory vaccination laws or may worsen during various times of year. Illnesses such as parvovirus, leptospirosis, giardia, tick-borne diseases, and canine respiratory illness may need additional safe guards to prevent a health catastrophe.
Weather conditions affect every dog differently.
Please consider:
Heat tolerance
Cold tolerance
Pavement temperatures
Hydration needs
Trail conditions
Air quality
There is never any expectation to complete the entire route. Turning back early or taking additional breaks is always encouraged if needed. Events will be cancelled if there is severe weather that could endanger the participants such as high winds, lightning, snow/ice, tornados, etc.
Trails & Tails and Wags & Walks are not competitions.
Whether your dog walks one mile or five, greets no one or makes a dozen new friends, every positive experience is a success.
We celebrate progress -not perfection!
Our hope is that every participant leaves feeling more confident, more connected, and excited to join us again.
